AÇÃO DA MINERAÇÃO EM TERRITÓRIO TRADICIONAL GERAIZEIRO DO NORTE DE MINAS GERAIS

Abstract
The North of the state of Minas Gerais becomes, with the turn of the century, the new frontier for the growth of the extractive activity of minerals within it. The region receives investments for the installation of mega mining projects. Among them is the Block 8 Project belonging to South American Metals S/A (SAM), for which the present work aims to discuss its environmental licensing process, considering that it will cause profound changes in the region of its installation, since that this area is inhabited by traditional populations of Geraizeiros. Thus, this article seeks to discuss the environmental licensing process of the Block 8 project in the Vale das Cancelas Geraizeiro Territory, Grão Mogol, Minas Gerais, identifying the affected communities, as well as highlighting the main strategies used by the company during the licensing process. The methodology consists of a literature review and analysis of social movement materials and documents available on the Internet.
