ACCUMULATION OF SELENIUM IN AQUATIC ORGANISMS OF THE CASPIAN SEA
Journal Title: Вестник Астраханского государственного технического университета. Серия: Рыбное хозяйство - Year 2012, Vol 0, Issue 1
Abstract
The establishing of the levels of selenium accumulation in sea fish is rather actual because of surprisingly high concentrations of trace elements in fish muscles as compared with terrestrial animals and the wide spread lack of public consumption of selenium in most countries of the world. By the ability to accumulate selenium investigated species can be arranged in the following order: crucian carp < rudd < pike = kutum < perch < carp < grey mullet < silverside < pikeperch < roach < common sprat < gobies < anchovy sprat < sturgeon. It is known that the main source of selenium to fish is the food though some elements pass through the gills during respiration. Comparison of the obtained results with data of selenium accumulation in muscle tissue of fish from different regions of the world indicates the absence of selenium deficiency in the Caspian Sea.
