Action Research on STI/HIV/AIDS in Primary Health Care

Abstract

Qualitative studies, such as action research, may contribute to promote greater participation of the social agents involved in the resolution of problems, in the improvement of the practices used, and in offering subsides for Primary Health Care (PHC) to fight ITS/HIV/AIDS. This review of the literature aims at identifying the themes found in PHC action research, the theoretical/conceptual bases that support these action research studies, to identify studies on ITS/HIV/AIDS, and to analyze how researches and subjects collaborated with each other in the search for solutions. The search was carried out in the Virtual Health Library in January, 2014. A total of 30 articles were identified, and among them, five dealt with HIV/AIDS/sex education. Nineteen articles referred to their conceptual and theoretical bases, with Paulo Freire’s critical pedagogy as the most common one.
