ACTIVITIES OF DMITRY MAKSIMOVICH KNIAZHEVICH’ IN SOCIETY OF AGRICULTURE OF THE SOUTHERN RUSSIA

Abstract

Activities of D. M. Kniazhevich’ in Society of Agriculture of the Southern Russia. The stages of the scientific community. Have analyzed D. M. Knyazhevich’ publishing, literary and publicistic activities. Dmitry Maksimovich Kniazhevich (1788-1844) – was the statesman, the scientist, the writer, the ethnographer and bright personality of scientific and social life of the Russian Empire during first half of the XIX century. His activities not enough studied until today and need to be analyse and research by modern scientists. The D. M. Kniazhevich’ life conventionally can be divided into two periods: St. Petersburg’ period – when his work was related to the post in the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Empire and Odessa’ period – when he was a trustee of the Odessa’ educational district. Throughout his life, he was a member of the scientific and cultural organizations that exists during first half of the XIX century. In modern historiography most studied his activities in Odessa Society of History and Antiquities, cause D. M. Kniazhevich was one of the founders of the society and was elected their first president. The article aims to disclose his activities within the of Society Agriculture of the Southern Russia. In the scientific Society Knyazhevich edited the journal and published his article. He published articles about sheep breeding. Experience that he got during membership from societie was helpful when D. M. Kniazhevich became president of Odessa Society of History and Antiquities (1839-1844). After all, D. M. Kniazhevich was one of the founders of that famous scientific association of Novorossiya region. Analysis of D. M. Knyazhevich’ publishing and editors legacy leads to the conclusion that there were important things in his science and social activity. Despite a busy with official position, Dmitriy Maksimovich always had a time to realize his scientific and literary talent during both periods of his career in St. Petersburg and Odessa.
