ACTUAL INTERCULTURAL PRACTICES AS AN INDICATOR OF THE INTERACTION OF CULTURAL GROUPS AND COMMUNITIES OF A POLYETHNIC CITY

Abstract
The article investigates multiculturalism as a historically determined social phenomenon, which is a source of preservation and development of existing ethnocultural diversity, and a systematic substantiation of the importance of the principle of multiculturalism as a source of effective interaction of cultures in a multi-ethnic community. The authors emphasize the intercultural approach. At the heart of this approach is the notion of the benefits of diversity, which means that diversity is not a threat, but an advantage for communities under the condition of competent leadership; working with the concept of diversity is not a way of urban branding, but a philosophy of governance and the definition of public policy. The given approach allows to comprehensively consider the specifics and differences of the forms of the embodiment of coexistence of cultures in multiethnic communities and find out the perspective ways of implementing the principle of multiculturalism in intercultural strategies and practices of the development of contemporary Ukrainian society.
