ACTUALIZATION OF EMOTIVE VOCABULARY IN THE GERMAN POETRY OF 1945–1961

Abstract

The article deals with the exploration of the emotive vocabulary in the German poetry of 1945–1961. The author focuses her attention on the problem of actualization of the language units as an act of using meaningful values conditioned by the predefined (communicative) situation. A modified definition of the actualization of emotive vocabulary is proposed, the concept of "an emotive" is more concretized through the prism of communicative Linguistics, the specifics of the studied phenomenon is revealed. The detailed study of 231 German poetic texts to has made it possible to come to the conclusion about the most effective lexical means that verbalize the semantics of basic emotions and emotional patterns. It has been proved that the lexical semantics of the lion's share of the basic emotions is associated with the thinness and the convergence synsemantic vocabulary, while emotional patterns are associated with the convergence of synsemantic vocabulary, action and word-combinations, the linear length of which does not exceed three word-forms, reflects the emotional attitude of the lyrical hero to the world and his emotional state, the indirect emotional assessment through the scale "positive – negative", aesthetic assessment through the scale "good-ugly" and utilitarian assessment within the scale "approved – disapproving". With regard to parts of speech, the actualization of the emotive vocabulary is represented by two groups: full-denotational – nouns, adjectives, verbs, pronouns, and auxiliary – emotive particles, emotive interjections. With regard to its word-building, the emotive vocabulary is divided into two types: simple and derivational. Simple emotives are characterized by polysemy and antonymity, derivatives – by monosemy. Polyfunctionality of the emotive vocabulary, its expression, description, transformation of the original emotion and information about emotion have been defined. These findings confirm the profound considerations of linguists concerning the semantic potential of the emotive vocabulary and its pragmatics.
