CONTEXTUAL FUNCTIONS OF SPANISH PERSONAL PRONOUNS AND THEIR UKRAINIAN EQUIVALANTS
Journal Title: Науковий вісник Херсонського державного університету. Серія: “Лінгвістика” - Year 2018, Vol 31, Issue
Abstract
The research focuses on contextual functions of Spanish personal pronouns and determining the appropriate ways to translate them into Ukrainian. When studying foreign languages both in secondary and higher educational institutions, the main learning objective is the task of active practical mastery of speech. However, it is not possible to achieve this demand, using only narrowly linguistic and pedagogical methods, consisting in the comprehension of the sole system of language, its normative grammar and linguistic facts corresponding exclusively to literary norms. For the practical mastery of a foreign language, an indispensable condition is also the comprehension of the functioning of linguistic units in various spheres of verbal communication. The functional approach to language helps to reveal the direct connections of language and society, the structure of language and speech, to reveal the intrasystem distribution of language facilities, to find out the specificity of their stylistic implementation and to find a suitable variant of translation from both native language and foreign language. The linguistic units that are studied by situational grammar include the same categories that are studied by the normative grammar as well. These are the grammatical categories of parts of speech and the syntactic categories of the sentence. Situational grammar deals with grammatical categories of words and sentences as the components of the speech sequence, defined by a system of rules adopted in different spheres of activity. The situational grammar displays the grammatical ways of distinguishing the important social spheres of communication of native speakers. To find adequate Ukrainian equivalents the translator faces the necessity to properly analyze the grammatical structure of Spanish sentences identifying the models they are based on. For an accurate understanding of the text, both syntactic and morphological analysis is important. The materials of the article will be useful for the students in studying Lexicology of the Spanish language and Translation Studies, translators, and anyone who wants to improve their knowledge of Spanish.
