ACTUALIZATION OF THE LINGUISTIC PECULIARITIES OF THE ENGLISH-LANGUAGE CHILDREN’S POETIC TEXTS IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE AGE CATEGORIZATION

Abstract

The article describes the linguistic peculiarities of the English-language poetic texts devoted for children, in accordance with the principle of the age categorization. The analysis provides the basis for the diversification of four groups of poems according to the age psychophysiological features of the child. There are poems for the youngest children (Toddlers), for Preschool Children, for children of the primary school who have recently learnt to read (Young School-Age Children/ Beginner Readers), and for children of the primary school who already know how to read aloud or silently (Older School-Age Children). The paper establishes the age parameters of the English-language children’s poetic texts. It was found out that the linguistic peculiarities represented in the children’s poetic texts both are due to the peculiarities of the child’s development and are oriented towards the child. The work confirms the fact that among the linguistic peculiarities of the English-language children’s poetic texts there are common peculiarities to the whole conglomerate of the English-language children’s poems and there are ones represented only in the poetic texts of a particular age category.
