Acute Intestinal Obstruction Due To Gangrenous Sigmoid Volvulus: A Case Report

Abstract

Sigmoid volvulus is an unusual but an important cause of intestinal obstruction. It is associated with a high mortality especially when there is delayed diagnosis or when there is presence of gangrenous changes. The incidence of sigmoid volvulus is reducing in western world. We hereby report an interesting case of intestinal obstruction due to gangrenous sigmoid volvulus. Patient was fortunate to survive this event. Keywords: Sigmoid volvulus, gangrene, obstruction
