Adult onset Moyamoya Disease in Down Syndrome: A case report
Journal Title: Journal of Neurological Sciences-Turkish - Year 2007, Vol 24, Issue 3
Abstract
Moyamoya Disease (MMD) is a progressive occlusive cerebro-vascular disease characterized by stenosis of the internal carotid arteries with development of collateral vessels. Its association with Down Syndrome (DS) has been reported especially in the pediatric age group. We report the occurrence of Moyamoya disease in a 53 year old adult with trisomy 21 and dementia who presented with subarachnoid hemorrhage. We suggest that MMD is under-diagnosed and should be considered in the differential diagnosis of any global or focal neurological insult.
