Afad Kurbanov’s school in the development of Azerbaijani onomatology

Abstract
This article studies the development of onomastics in Azerbaijan based on the example of the prominent Azerbaijani scientist, Academician A. Kurbanov. In particular, a number of works by A. Kurbanov were analyzed, his contribution to the development of both separate areas of onomastic science and the linguistics in general has been determined, the author's approach to such areas of onomastics as the proper names, toponymic names, including those associated with the animal and vegetable world. It is noted that A. Kurbanov has done a great job in popularizing onomatics, holding various conferences, establishing the Association, creating centers for studying the problems of onomatology.
