Journal Title: Біологія тварин - Year 2016, Vol 18, Issue 2

Abstract

The article is concerned with the results of epizootological study of epizootic situation of African swine fever in Ukraine and in neighbouring European countries: Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. The role of the African swine fever virus circulating in Russia and Belarus for the expansion of ASF virus to the Baltic countries, Poland and Ukraine has been determined. Information about the experience of ASF eradication in the European Union Countries within the European strategy of the ASF control has been provided. It is established that the absolute majority of ASF cases in the European Union at this stage of spreading the virus has been registered in wild boars. The spread of African swine fever in Ukraine during 2012–2015 has been studied. The recurrence of most outbreaks and the formation of local epizootic disease cycle are indicated. The current state and predicting the probability of ASF outbreaks in Ukraine, with the use of cartographic visualization data of ASF outbreaks in wild boar populations, on farms and in commercial enterprises of Ukraine have been determined. The trends and threats of spreading ASF according to probable scenarios have been analyzed. The consequences of several ways of ASF control in wild boar populations have been simulated. The horizontal transmission of the virus spreading mostly in summer and autumn, when the number of animals increases as a result of their breeding has been confirmed. The possibility of ASF cases ratio on the population’s farms and on specialized farms raising pigs has been determined on the results of the retrospective analysis of ASF outbreaks in Ukraine. It has been paid special attention to preventing the spread of the ASF in the south of the country, where the main environment of ASF circulation and persistence will be an extensive pig-raising sector.
