Age Estimation of Victims in Pornographic Content as Part of Evidentiary Examination in Child Pornography Cases

Abstract
It is illegal to access, store and share obscene pictures depicting an underage (18) involved in sexual acts, however, it is hard to make an exact age estimation of depicted persons just by looking at their pictures. Forensic examiners are asked to determine whether or not depicted person in obscene pictures is really an underage. What methods can be used to determine the age of a person depicted in digital pornographic images? This question needs to be answered and this study examines age estimations methods and whether those methods could also be used in age estimations from pictures. As a result, it may be conferred that the best age estimation of persons in alleged child pornography is the age estimation method based on phsical growth and development indications. Also, forensic experts should avoid appointing a chronological age and they should consider age range to those of unknown age.
