Abstract

Resilience as a tool to control or manage the different conflicts that occur during cases of alcohol addiction is very important since the affected persons can acquire the necessary strength that gives them the optimal possibility to face addiction. Objective: To analyze the relationship between the intensity of alcohol dependence and resilience in the Alcoholics Anonymous program’s persons in San Francisco de Asís, Aragua state (Venezuela). Materials and methods: It is a descriptive, correlational investigation. With a thirty-one (31) adult person’s census, sample of the male sex, with an apparently intense alcoholic behavior. Which affect their life quality and the people’s life who make up its closest environment. Three instruments were applied: the Sociodemographic Questionnaire (CSC-18), the Alcohol Dependency Intensity Questionnaire (EIDA) and the Wagnild and Young Resilience Scale (ER). Results: Regarding the intensity of the alcohol dependence of the surveyed subjects, these have medium-high levels. In addition, they reflect a high degree of self-awareness, ability to express their feelings, acceptance and understanding of feelings, empathy and capacity for emotional self-regulation. Conclusions: Those individuals who scored higher on the resilience scale, have a lower level of alcohol dependence and, therefore, are more likely to overcome addiction, while those who scored higher on the alcohol dependence intensity scale have a higher poor resilience and that makes it difficult for them to overcome alcohol dependence
