Alexitimia, body, psychotherapy - a new research and clinical perspective

Abstract

The authors makes an analysis of the relationship between alexithymia and the bodily experience. In accordance to the large literature they give the definition and the characteristics of the phenomenon of alexithymia, its etiology and the consequences for the development of a person. They present the experiences of the body and the somatization disorders in patients with alexithymia. The attachment theory is the theoretical background. The authors describe the results of their own research and show their experience in clinical work. The paper closes with the description of proposals of the psychotherapeutic work with persons with alexithymia. of the patient focusing on cognitive-behavioural, psychodynamic and systemic perspectives.
