Abstract
Image retrieval is an important area in the use of modern digital computing in order to obtain a reliable estimate for visual and especially automatic analysis. Most of the methods used to process one-dimensional signals to select a useful signal against the background of additive noise can be also generalized for a two-dimensional case. Image smoothing is a reduction in the interference dispersion caused by the imperfection of the image system. The image is a two-dimensional function of spatial coordinates, which varies by these coordinates slower than an obstacle. A "perfectly smooth" signal for images is considered to be a signal described by a piecewise constant model, that is, a "patch" image with spots-parts that have a constant signal value within each area. In the process of transmitting an image in a communication channel, it is affected by a variety of obstacles that complicate visual and automatic analysis. There are many different methods for filtering or smoothing a noisy two-dimensional useful component, the application of which depends on the chosen mathematical model of the image and noise.
