Alientation from the Viewpoint of Social Psychology: Turkish Adaptation of Dean’s Alientation Scale

Abstract
The first objective of this study was to investigate the historical development of the alienationconcept and the studies about alienation from a social psychological perspective. The second objective was to test the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of Dean’s Alienation scale. The sample of the study was 302 (180 female and 122 male) undergraduate students. Factor analysis revealed three factors: Powerlessness, normlessness and social isolation. Cronbach alpha coefficient was found as .79 and test retest reliability coefficient was .74. The results are discussed within the literature.
