AN ANALYSIS ON THE RELIGIOSITY AND POLITICAL PARTICIPATION RELATIONSHIP ON UNIVERSITY STUDENTS: SAMPLE OF BÜLENT ECEVİT UNIVERSITY

Abstract
The subject of the study is the relationship between religiosity and political participation. On literatüre review, it is seen that the studies about religiosity and political participation are limited. The aim of the study is to reveal the relation between religiosity and political participation in Bülent Ecevit University (BEU) students. Accordingly, first of all religion and religiosity, then the dimensions of religiosity and the term of political participation were examined. In the last part of our study, a questionnaire was carried out in BEÜ with the participation of 389 students in order to reveal the relation between religiosity and political participation in university students. In the study, levels of students' religiosity and political participation were compared according to their demographic characteristics. According to the results obtained in the research, regression analysis made to determine the causal relation between intrinsic religiosity, extrinsic religiosity and political participation was statistically significant. While the level of intrinsic religiosity of the students does not affect the level of political participation, the level of extrinsic religiosity of the students reduces the level of political participation.
