Abstract

One of the important meanings in improving the quality of human environments is the sense of attachment to place. This sense, which is an important factor in formation of the communication bases for users and the environment, will ultimately create the high quality environments. Attachment to place is a deep and effective bond between human and place, which results from a positive interaction between the two. What is the importance of attachment to the place and dimensions of the bond between man and place? What are the factors affecting human attachment to place? This research examined the existing theories about the sense of attachment to place and how it is understood by people with a deductive approach, and investigated the factors affecting this feeling, and finally presented some hypotheses for testing. The present paper intended to apply the study on a sense of attachment to place by presenting an appropriate model for student dormitory with the aim of promoting the bond of human and place; it also aimed to provide a new definition of life in collective housing.
