An Influence of Institutions of Business Environment on the Development of Small and Medium Enterprises in the Lublin Region

Abstract
In the times of knowledge-based economy, the cooperation of small and medium enterprises with companies offering assistance in consulting, training, information and support implementation of innovative solutions and modern technologies became indispensable. In the article a potential of institutions of business environment in the Lublin region and a scope of provided ser-vices for small and medium enterprises were presented. The analysis of data available and the results of the self made research indicated a limited scope of cooperation of small and medium enterprises of the Lublin region with institutions of business environment, characterized by a less dynamic activity in comparison to the country average, insufficient availability and an inappropriate scope of offer. At the same time dependence between a level of cooperation of small and medium enterprises with institutions of business environment and development of companies was shown. An assumption that one of key limitations in the development of small and medium enterprises in the Lublin region is an insufficient support of institutions of business environment was verified. Based on results of the research conclusions and recommendations were made to initiate required changes in the activity of institutions of business environment in the Lublin region and effects resulting from those changes leading to the development of small and medium enterprises and improvement of the economic potential of the Lublin region were presented.
