AN INFORMATION FLOW MODEL OF LINEAR-FUNCTIONAL ORGANIZATIONAL MANAGEMENT STRUCTURES OF HIGH-TECHNOLOGY ENTERPRISES

Abstract

Many recent studies have focused on formation of models and methods of analysis and management of information flows, recourses and processes. This paper focuses on formation of an analytical model of information flows on the highest levels of management hierarchy of line-ar-functional organization management structure of high-technology enterprise. This paper gives the definition of information flow and its characteristics. In order to estimate these quanti-tative characteristics the model was developed which consists of information flow intensity, quantity and quality of information. In this paper information quantity is defined by entropy. Flow intensity is defined by the average number of messages received per time unit. The quality (val-ue) of information can be defined using the measure of value by Bongard and Kharkevich. The-se parameters all together determine the value of the messages exchanged between partici-pants of the organizational management structure. The research proved it to be difficult to use the formulas to calculate the information quality properly. Therefore only flow intensity and in-formation quantity are to be considered to construct an analytical model. They can be used to analyze and optimize the information overload on the senior managers of high-tech enterprises, such as engineering and shipbuilding plants, sea ports etc. This paper shows an example of in-formation quantity calculation on the highest management levels and of finding the optimal data transmission routes. This in turn also shows information overloaded senior managers whose communications should be optimized.
