An Interview with the Spanish Translator Olcay Öztunalı

Abstract
In this interview, translator and academician Asst. Prof. Olcay Öztunalı’s opinions on translation process is given in the light of translator decisions, the role of translation and translators, actors in the translation process and problems faced in this process. It has been aimed to make an interview in a way that will include all the steps of translation starting from the preparation period until the translation reaches its target group. The opinions put forth in the interview belong to an individual with both professional translator and academician identity. Therefore, it can be said that they are based on both experiences of a translator and theoretical information of an academician. For this reason, this interview targets at providing insight for both translators and Translation Studies students. It starts with a question on the preparation period for a translation and ends with discussion on how to enable sustainability of the concept of translation. While discussing all the questions, examples from literary translation, especially translation from Spanish literature, are mainly given place as it is Öztunalı’s area of specialization.
