Abstract

Gulistan was written by Sadi Shirazi, a famous poet of Persion and eastern literature. Gülistan, which is more adaptive character than its translation, consists of a preface and eight chapters. Today there are hundreds of hand written copies of this book in the world's major libraries and also its original copy in Persian language has been printed approximately 200 times. It has been translated in many languages such as Arabic, English and French. The first Turkish translation of this work, which was met with great popularity among the Turkish society and made many translations until the present day starting from the 14th century, was realized by Seyf-i Sarâyî in 1391. Gülistan Translation has a literary character among the texts written in Mamluk Kipchak Turkish. Gulistan Translation of Seyf-i Sarâyî has been studied in many ways, and many scientific studies have been conducted on the thesis and article dimension. As it is known, these studies are about the importance, language and vocabulary of Gülistan Translation. In this study, the proverbs in Dîvânu Lugâti’t Türk and the equivalent proverbs referring to common concepts were examined. Although most of the proverbs in Dîvânu Lugâti’t Türk are not seen in the same way with Gülistan Translation, they are important for referring to common concepts.
