Abstract

As a part of the study, the lubrication conditions of typical gear transmissions used in drives of conveyors were determined using the modified calculation method described in ISO/TR 15144-1:2014 (E) standard. In particular, the scope of the research work included measurements of roughness of 8 gear wheels produced with the use of three manufacturing technologies. The next stage of work involved determination of the roughness value Ra, the relative thickness of the oil film λ for the gear wheels of the selected gear transmissions. Geometric, process and load parameters corresponding to the real values were used in the calculations. A wide range of the experimental and calculation work performed allowed making some observations. The most important of them are as follows: the measured value of the roughness of the surface of gear wheel teeth depended on the direction of the measurement; the roughness measured along the flank pitch line was lower than that measured along the tooth profile direction; the gear wheels subjected to the analysis are operated in boundary or mixed lubrication conditions; the unfavourable lubrication conditions of the analysed pairs of gear wheels forming the stage II or III of gear transmissions resulted from a relatively low rotational speed and a high value of the load.
