Analysis of Electrical Load Forecasting Methods

Abstract

The importance of the energy demand sustains its rising in parallel with increasing population, urbanization, proliferation of industry and technology. A large part of the energy consists of electrical energy. The load forecasting has an important role in planning, operation and control of power systems. Higher load forecasting than the electrical demand leads to excessive energy intake by tripping the power supply units and causes ensuring unnecessary reserve. Conversely, lower load forecasting may cause ensuring insufficient reserves by resulting in the system to run in a risky area. At the same time, the basis for many decisions in energy markets is load forecasting. Electrical energy prices optimized according to the result of load forecasting allows the energy markets to plan and operate in an effective, transparent, reliable way and to meet sector needs. In this study, the differences, advantages and disadvantages of the methods used for load estimation in the academic studies in the literature are explained.
