Analysis of Event: “Eighteenth Brumaire of Louis Bonaparte”

Abstract
The well-known work of Karl Marx is a criticism — an analytical assessment — of the event of the coup d’état, after which the restoration of the monarchic form of government in France took place. The article shows that Marx’s interpretation of the concept of “event” anticipates modern interpretations. Three interconnected prospects for constructing a text have been singled out and examined in the article: metaphorical, temporal, structural. Metaphorical one determines both the meanings of what is happening and the way in which it is interpreted by the interpreter. Temporal prospect reveals K.Marx’s attitude to the three dimensions of time — the past, the present and the future. Structural prospect focuses attention on the main actors of the political process — institutions, organizations, and classes.
