Analysis of stiffness, strength and ergonomics of upholstered furniture designer for outdoor use

Abstract

Analysis of stiffness, strength and ergonomics of upholstered furniture designer for outdoor use. The aim of the study was to analyse particular mechanical properties and to make an assessment on ergonomics of eight outdoor upholstered armchairs (two times four pieces). They vary with regard to the way of upholstery layer’s protection against external factors. Dimensional analysis has been made as well as test of the ultimate strength of the construction and construction’s rigidity and ergonomics analysis. The results have shown that furniture’s construction is safe and dismensional analysis showed that examined furnitures are functional. Comparison of the seat’s construction rigidity has been made for each element. Ergonomic analysis has been made using sensor mat, comparing results of active sensors surface, contact stresses mean seat pressure distribution and comfort factor. Results showed that there are differences in ergonomic and stiffness of the particular furniture's seats.
