ANALYSIS OF THE IMPACT OF WEAR ON THE STABLE TEMPERATURE FIELD OF A FRICTION COUPLE
Journal Title: Tribologia - Year 2015, Vol 259, Issue 1
Abstract
The article investigates the models of the heat processes due to friction were constructed based the assumption of equality of work and the friction heat. Such a simplicity is justified by a small (most often a few percentage) share in the power balance of the power component is needed to create wear products. In publication [L. 1], the authors showed the significant effect of this small share on the non-stationary temperature field of the elements of the model friction couple, which were two half-non-finite, thin-walled tubes that exchange heat with the environment. This study refers to study [L. 1] and is dedicated to analyse the stationary heat processes in elements of a tribological system with the assumption that part of the friction work causes the wear. Additionally, finite lengths of the thin-walled tubes were considered. The selection of the friction couple of the linear field of temperature was governed by the need to obtain a transparent interpretation of the results. The temperature in friction contact and the temperature distributions in individual tubes were determined. In this study, the following was taken into account: the physical properties of materials, the conditions of heat exchange with the environment, and some of geometrical features of friction elements. In order to illustrate the impact of wear on the temperature fields, the assumption of the equality of work and friction heat in the model of friction thin-wall tubes was done. Then, two models were compared. Examples of calculations were performed using Delphi and Excel software. The calculations indicate that wear contributes significantly to lower temperatures at particular points of the analysed friction couple.
