Analysis of Wear Rate of Tool Materials while Drilling Inconel 718 Super Alloy using EDM
Journal Title: JOURNAL OF ADVANCED RESEARCH IN PRODUCTION AND INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING - Year 2017, Vol 4, Issue 3
Abstract
In the present study, drilling of Inconel 718 using EDM was experimented with industrial/commercial electrodes of two different materials - brass and copper. The process parameters selected for the study were current, voltage, pulse on-time, and pulse off-time. The performance of electrode was analyzed by measurement of tool wear rate (TWR) i.e. electrode wear Ratio (EWR). The electrodes having inner diameter of 0.5mm and outer diameter of 2 mm and length of 50 mm. The experimental results indicated that copper electrode outperformed brass electrodes with regard to TWR. Thus among the two electrode materials tested, copper is the best choice of electrode material with respect to TWR.
