Journal Title: Eurasian Journal of Family Medicine - Year 2016, Vol 5, Issue 1
Abstract
Aim: The aim of this study is to define the job satisfaction levels, burnout levels and the factors affecting them in radiology technicians. Methods: A questionnaire including Maslach Burnout Inventory, Job Descriptive Index, and The Short Minnesota Job Satisfaction Scale was applied to randomly selected 200 radiology technicians working in Ankara. One-way analysis of variance, Student's t test and chi-square tests were used in the statistical analyses. Results: A total of 177 radiology technicians, including 105 (59.3%) men and 72 (40.7%) women participated in this study; occupational group of 162 (91.5%) participants was Radiology Technician. We found the "emotional burnout" levels to be significantly higher in women (27.9 ± 7.2) than men (24.1 ± 7.2) (p = 0.001), whereas job satisfaction levels were higher in men (41.3 ± 7.8) than women (36.4 ± 9.2 (p<0.001). The level of education was found to be a factor influencing job satisfaction (p = 0.039). The most commonly selected identifier regarding the job was "boring" with a ratio of 73.4% (n = 130). Conclusion: In our study, we found that "burnout" levels were significantly higher in women and job satisfaction levels were significantly higher in men among radiology technicians. We suggest that improving adverse working conditions of radiology technicians and developing support programs would decrease levels of burnout and increase levels job satisfaction.
