ANTIAESTHETICS OF THE BODY AS A METHOD OF DISAPPROVAL OF SOVIET REALITY IN IVAN BUNIN’S LATE PUBLICISM

Abstract

Ivan Bunin entered the history of world literature as a master of portrait details. According to his contemporaries, I. Bunin was extremely attentive to the detail. The writer could study a stranger in a café for a very short period of time and then tell the story of this person’s life, and even guess his/her health problems. Sensual details- anticipations fill all I. Bunin’s works. The use of corporal and sensory imagery in I. Bunin’s fictional texts was thoroughly studied by different researchers, but the author’s publicism was left without attention. This situation can be explained by the lack of the attention to I.Bunin’s journalism in general. So, this article is devoted to the study of corporality in the publicism of I. Bunin created during the period of emigration. The main purpose of the article is to determine the role of the corporal antiaesthetics in the late publicism of Ivan Bunin. The study of the sensual portrait details in the writer’s late emigrant publicism shows that it acquires an evaluation function due to the rejection of Soviet reality. This rejection is expressed by I. Bunin on the sensory level through the use of physical aversion directed to the members of the «new power». The features of their portraits evoke a sense of disharmony and abnormality. This technique works perfectly well because the use of adjectives and metaphors does not involve a dispute.
