Antibiotic utilization study in medicine OPD of government and private hospital of Rajasthan

Abstract
Objective: Present study was conducted in OPD of government and private tertiary care teaching hospitals to study the antibiotic utilization pattern. Method: present study was conducted in government and private OPDs of medicine for 6 months. Data analyse as per WHO core indicators. Result: Total 200 prescriptions collected and analysed as per WHO core indicators. Average number of drugs very high in private hospital. Antibiotics prescribed very frequently in both hospitals. Conclusion: Strict guidelines and valid policies should be implemented in hospitals to decrease the antibiotic misuse and decrease the risk of microbial resistance against the current known antibiotics. The study confirms that there is a misuse of antibiotics in hospitals and that the physician needs to follow strict guidelines to prescribe antibiotics
