Abstract

Microbiology is developed as an established science since last two centuries. Earlier the investigations were confined to observation of the effect of various drugs on the whole body. With the development of microbiological techniques, it has now become possible to investigate the action of the drug on isolated micro-organisms i.e. in vitro antimicrobial susceptibility testing. Since long, good number of Ayurvedic classical preparations were being used in cases of infection and they were found to be effective clinically. Gandhaka taila is one such a herbo-mineral oil based formulation, which is mentioned in the treatment of Karnasrava as a topical agent.
