APPLICATION OF A LINEAR WEAR INDICATOR IN THE ASSESSMENT OF RESISTANCE TO ABRASIVE WEAR OF PLOUGHSHARES AND CHISELS

Abstract

The aim of this work is to present a method of assessing resistance to abrasive wear of ploughshares and chisels using a linear wear indicator that is called “a unit of local changes in the contour.” This indicator is created based on the absolute change in the contour of elements and area or friction path made by them. Using this indicator, chisels and ploughshares made of three steel grades with a boron alloy were evaluated, i.e. boron steel intended for heat treatment B27, Hardox 500, and steel used by the company Lemken. Elements were used in the conditions of sandy soils. The wear intensity of chisels was in range from 9.92 – 12.09 mm·ha-1 (0.47 – 0.57 mm·km-1) and of ploughshares was in range 2.09 – 2.48 mm·ha-1 (0,10÷0,12 mm·km-1). The highest intensity of wear was achieved by the components made of quenched B27 steel; however, the lowest intensity of wear was achieved by the components made of steel used by Lemken.
