INFLUENCE OF THE DISPERGATION CONDITIONS OF MONTMORYLONITE IN EPOXY RESIN ON THE MECHANICAL PROPERTIES AND MORPHOLOGY OF NANOCOMPOSITES

Abstract

The paper presents of the investigation of mechanical properties and morphology of epoxy matrix nanocomposites. Montmorylonite (MMT) Closite 30B was used as aluminosilicate nanofiller. It has been found that presence of nanofiller has a beneficial effect on the mechanical properties of epoxy resin. Some methods of dispegation of MMT in epoxy resin were used: mechanical dispergation (9500 and 20500 rpm), ultrasonic dispergation (amplitude of 50 and 100%). Dispergation time (10 min) was the for all used methods. The mechanical strength of nanocomposites depends significantly on the method of dispergation. Results os Scanning Elektron Microscopy (SEM) and Wide Angle X-ray Scattering (WAXS) investtigations show that the nanofiller has been uniforly dispergated and the exfoliation of aluminosilicate layers has taken place.
