Application of acoustic emission to fault diagnostics in civil engineering
Journal Title: Roads and Bridges - Drogi i Mosty - Year 2012, Vol 11, Issue 2
Abstract
The definition of Acoustic Emission (AE) signal and the nature of its origin and propagation is discussed in the paper. Three areas of application of AE in Civil Engineering are presented: monitoring of reinforced concrete girders, pressurised industrial storage tanks and steel bridges. Application of AE monitoring in investigation of concrete materials is also presented. Accoustic emission testing is found to be an effective diagnostic tool.

Testing of a large-span soil-shell structure without stiffeners during backfilling process
The paper presents the results of field tests carried out on a prototype structure in the form of a low-profile steel arch made from corrugated plates, covered with soil, which was intended as a wildlife overpass. The co...
The bridge over the Ina River - the history and the analysis of capacity
This article is about a two-span bridge over Ina river located on the provincial road number 142. It was built in early forties of the 20th century as a highway bridge. It was a part of Berlin - Koenigsberg route built...
Capacity assessment and modification of high noise barriers
Capacity assessment and modification of existing steel structure of high noise barriers in which imminent failure conditions occurs is developed in the article. Differences between design assumptions defined by Eurocode...
Evaluation of technical condition of concrete covers of cable manhole used in roads
The subject of the paper is the technical condition of precast concrete covers of cable manhole used on roads for pedestrians and vehicles. The purpose of performed investigation was the evaluation of the technical condi...
Parameters of load transverse distribution across bridges
The paper concerns analysis of two classic bridge span models i.e. flat grillage and orthotropic plate in order to determine usefulness of characteristic parameters of this models for creation of load transverse distribu...
