Application of and Control Charts to Investigate Students’ Performance
Journal Title: Journal of Advances in Mathematics and Computer Science - Year 2017, Vol 23, Issue 4
Abstract
This paper is coined to investigate the performance of students based on two semesters’ examination scores. The objective of this discussion is to determine whether the performance of students is based on each examination taken or performance is based on each semester. Being a variable data, we applied the and control charts to determine the performance of each student. The and control charts are practicable to determine students’ performance. The analysis revealed that an observation exceeding the upper control limit indicates that the student is an exceptional student in terms of the average. The contrary is also true for a student with an average below the lower control limit. In this case, a student whose average is below the lower control limit should be invited by the level adviser or the institutions counseling unit for counseling and possibly inquiry on his/her predicament, this will enable the analyst to proffer advise that will assist the student to overcome his/her academic challenges and possibly improve. In general, the analysis based on the control charts revealed that students’ performance fluctuates from semester to semester.

Second derivative Hybrid Block Backward Differentiation Formulae for Numerical Solution of Stiff Systems
In this research work, two and three step second derivative hybrid block backward differentiation formulae (SDHBBDF) method of order 6 and 7 are presented for the numerical solution of stiff initial value problems. The b...
A Deterministic Model of ART on HIV Spread Outcomes: A Case Study in Tanzania
This is about understanding in a mathematical perspective, how the introduction of antiretroviral therapy (ART) is shaping the spread of HIV. A non-linear mathematical model for HIV transmission in a variable size popula...
Design and Implementation of Photo-induced Heart Beat Monitoring System
This study presents the design of photo-induced heart beat monitor that uses cheap and readily available materials unlike most of all the rather sophisticated heart beat monitoring devices that uses complicated designs a...
A Stochastic Model of the Dynamics of Stock Price for Forecasting
In this work, a stochastic model of some selected stocks in the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) is formulated. We considered four different stocks and their market prices. The likelihood of each change occurring in the sto...
Hellinger Distance Between Generalized Normal Distributions
A relative measure of informational distance between two distributions is introduced in this paper. For this purpose the Hellinger distance is used as it obeys to the definition of a distance metric and, thus, provides a...
