Application of atomic absorption spectrometry with continuous light source to analyze selected metals important for human health
Journal Title: Current Issues in Pharmacy and Medical Sciences - Year 2014, Vol 27, Issue 3
Abstract
The publication describes the application of high-resolution continuum source atomic absorption spectrometry (H-R CS AAS) to determine some physiologically essential and toxic elements occurring in citrus fruits of different origins. Before analysis, the samples were mineralized using a mixture of deionized water and 69% nitric acid 3:1 (v/v) in high pressure microwave digestion at 188°C during one hour. The obtained validation parameters for AAS such as high linearity (the correlation coefficient R > 0,997) and high precision expressed as relative standard deviation (%RSD) were satisfactory for quantification. Cadmium at concentration range from 0.29 to 0.43 mg/kg was determined in all tested samples, however the obtained values did not exceed Polish standards. The higher concentration of potassium comparing to sodium and calcium was noted in each investigated samples. The highest variation was observed for calcium, its concentration strongly depended on the country of origin.

Kinetics of the decomposition and the estimation of the stability of 10% aqueous and non-aqueous hydrogen peroxide solutions
In this study, the stability of 10% hydrogen peroxide aqueous and non-aqueous solutions with the addition of 6% (w/w) of urea was evaluated. The solutions were stored at 20°C, 30°C and 40°C, and the decomposition of hydr...
Usefulness of AC-impedance spectroscopy technique in occlusal caries detection – own investigations
Exact caries detection and monitoring over time are important in modern clinical caries management. Especially the detection before cavitation occurs and the control of initial lesions are of significance because an accu...
The international normalized ratio (INR) as seen in a population of patients with atrial fibrillation and cerebral infarction undergoing long-term treatment with vitamin K antagonists
It is estimated that nearly 20% of all cerebral infarctions in the total population are the result of a complication of atrial fibrillation (AF). While oral anticoagulation with vitamin K antagonists (AVKs) substantially...
Therapeutic management of an injury of the upper incisor within complete root formation
A 9.5 year-old patient, following an accident, suffered a comminuted lateral fracture of the root of tooth 21 at the neck level. The treatment consisted of immobilizing and maintaining tooth vitality. The presented case...
The influence of the viscosity of the ointment vehicles magisterial topical preparations, on the speed transfer of biologically active substances
The aim of this study was to analyze the morphological parameters (viscosity, viscous elasticity and the rate of volatile component loss) of salicylic and boric acid-containing magisterial formulae (ointments). Moreover,...
