Application of FT-IR spectrophotometry in the assessment of changes in composition of greases induced by mechanical action

Abstract

The paper presents results of studies of the effect of tribological tests on changes in the composition of greases. To this end IR spectra of the unaffected greases have been registered and compared with the spectra of greases acted upon mechanically. Bands characteristic of the compounds studied were identified and changes thereof were assessed. A methodology based on Beer–Lambert law was developed for determining the content of additives in the studied compositions and was subsequently applied to assess the chemical transformations in this area.
