Application of Green computing techniques in data centers- Case study of US data centers
Journal Title: International Journal of Research in Chemistry and Environment (IJRCE) - Year 2011, Vol 1, Issue 2
Abstract
Our human race is seeing rapid developmental pace in many verticals, many industries had been revolutionizing the way we live. One such industry which had created history is computing and information technology. Owing to the bountiful applications of computing technologies its used widely in almost every industry across the world. This had surely supported to our growth but with a compromise of creating resource crunch and energy demand. We are moving towards using computing technologies in every aspect of our life which creates heavy energy demand. Recently there is an outcry to control the power consumption of computing resource of any industry and a new terminology is born called as Green computing. Green computing is conveyed as the study and practice of using available computing resources efficiently in a manner that their power consumption is optimized without compromising their working efficiency. Green computing terminology had surely created a stir among the computing technology designers and industries and many industries are moving towards greener IT infrastructure which is the need of the hour. This article provides an insight into the power consumption pattern of data centers which are back bone of any IT infrastructure and the impact of Green computing on them.
