Application of numerical modeling techniques to optimization of cyclone dust separators operated in the cement industry

Journal Title: CHEMIK nauka-technika-rynek - Year 2013, Vol 67, Issue 10

Abstract

The paper comprises analysis of results from numerical modeling of flow in cyclone dust separators with use of the ANSYS Fluent software package with the aim to optimize design of cyclones. The study is focused on investigation how shapes of structural components may affect parameters that are decisive for performance of such separators, i.e. separation efficiency (gain) of solids and pressure drop. The completed computations assumes implementation of the Reynolds Stress Model (RSM) that was used for modeling of turbulent flow with formation of intense vortexes. Trajectories of particles were determined by means of the Discrete Phase Model (DPM).
