Application of the ground penetrating radar method for the Ukrainian railways

Abstract
The article analyzes the condition of the earth roadbed on the railways of Ukraine, the requirements for it and the methods of monitoring. The attention is paid to the importance of monitoring the state of railway infrastructure objects in conditions of introduction of high-speed traffic on Ukrainian railways. The method of georadiolocation is proposed as one of the promising methods of earth roadbed monitoring. Georadar is used by many railway companies in Europe to study the geotechnical state of the railway lines. The purpose of such research means continuous, rapid and non-destructive examination of the geotechnical state of the track. Based on these data, a detailed review is carried out and a decision is taken on the elimination of defects in the specified areas. In a number of developed countries (Canada, USA, Germany, Japan) a georadar is used for non-destructive control of the condition of the earth roadbed, ballast layer and artificial structures. The given data of world and domestic experience show that georadars can be effectively used for the general survey of extended sections, and their advantages are efficiency of work and low labor intensity.
