Application of the life cycle assessment (LCA) metod for assessing the impact of mechanically loaded mining blasting materials on the environment

Journal Title: CHEMIK nauka-technika-rynek - Year 2014, Vol 68, Issue 1

Abstract

The environmental life cycle assessment (LCA) is a method that allows assessing the impact of production processes and the usage of mining explosives on the environment, which is still relatively new in Poland. LCA is an instrument of environmental policy and management, the rules of which have been defined in a group of series 14040x ISO standards. This publication presents the life cycle assessment of the production and usage process of ANFO and emulsion blasting agent. The paper contained a description of the scope of analysis, the functional unit, unit processes, the material and energy balance, as well as the key categories of impact and damage, which allow the determination of elements that generate the biggest risk.
