Application of thermal desorption as treatment method for soil contaminated with hazardous chemical
Journal Title: Advances in Environmental Sciences - International Journal of the Bioflux Society - Year 2011, Vol 3, Issue 2
Abstract
Soil is constantly evolving under the influence of both environmental factors and human activities. Because of strong industrialization in the past, Romania is among those European countries that have large areas contaminated by industrial waste, containing hazardous chemicals. The paper is an overview of thermal desorption methods used for the treatment of soils contaminated with hazardous chemicals such as mercury or DDT and will emphasize the optimal conditions for conducting thermal desorption.

Composition and structure of the epilithic diatom communities from Izbucul Cernei, Cernişoara and the confluence area (Gorj County)
The paper presents the results obtained after determining and processing some relatively quantitative samples used to characterize the epilithic diatom communities installed in the biggest carstic spring from Romania, Iz...
Are the hibernating water frogs from Pelophylax (Rana) esculentus complex (from North-Western Romania) able to adapt to the thermal water conditions?
We were interested to determine if the hibernanting Pelophylax ridibundus and the other two forms of water frogs from the Pelophylax esculentus complex (Pelophylax lessonae, Pelophylax esculentus) fulfil the requirements...
Effect of mixture of alcohols on biodiesel properties which produced from waste cooking oils and compare combustion performance and emissions of biodiesels with petrodiesel
Increasing the petroleum price and environmental problems have been driving forces to find alternative and renewable energy resources. Biodiesel has attracted the attention of many researchers due to various advantages a...
Durability of critical infrastructure
The paper deals with those infrastructures by which world society, under the pressure of demographic explosion, self-survives. The main threatening comes not from terrorist attacks, but from the great natural catas...
New data for Cesium from soil in Cluj-Napoca town after Cernobyl acciden
Cesium 137 deposits are due to serious nuclear disaster (such as Chernobyl) and nuclear weapons tests. Due to the wide range of uses in environmental studies is important to know that radionuclide concentrations in envir...
