Applications of geometric morphometric analysis in describing sexual dimorphism in shell shapes in Vivipara angularis Muller (Family Viviparidae)
Journal Title: Animal Biology & Animal Husbandry - International Journal of the Bioflux Society - Year 2012, Vol 4, Issue 1
Abstract
Prior studies have shown different insights about sexual shell dimorphism in the snails of familyViviparidae. This study was conducted to evaluate and determine the occurence of sexual dimorphism and shape variation in the shells of the viviparid snail, Vivipara angularis Muller, from three characters (ventral/aperture, dorsal, and top/whorl) using geometric morphometric analyses. All the three shell characters exhibited significant sexual shell dimorphism, this may be due to adaptations for brooding of the viviparid snails. Results indicate employment of different shell characters subjected to geometric morphometric analysis other than the aperture, in order to discriminate between sexes of the snails accurately

On the egg parasitoids of Aproceros leucopoda (Hymenoptera: Argidae), an invasive pest species from Japan
In this paper we present the parasitic Hymenoptera reared from Aproceros leucopoda Takeuchi, 1939 eggs and also we give notes regarding the different parasitoids of this invasive saw fly. Asecodes (Teleopterus) erxias (W...
Feeding ecology of black scorpionfish (Scorpaena porcus Linnaeus, 1758) from the Romanian Black Sea (Agigea – Eforie Nord area).
The present study investigates the variations in the feeding ecology of the black scorpionfish (Scorpaena porcus). The index of relative importance indicated opportunistic feeding on macrobenthic fauna. The fish fed main...
Characterization of porcine β-casein G allele(CSN2G)
Following the sequencing of porcine (Sus scrofa) β-casein cDNA we have identified a new allele at this locus (CSN2). Our sequence (GenBank accession number GU827390) differs from the sequence reported by Alexander and...
Study on some milk production indices of Romanian buffalo
This study evaluated the milk production performances of the Romanian dairy breed of buffaloes from three important areas of Sălaj county from north-western Romania. This county has one of the valuable buffalo herds f...
