Applications of LC-MS and CE-MS in the analysis<br /> of traditional Chinese medicine<br />

Abstract
The modernization and the internationalization of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) bring both opportunities and challenges to analytical chemists. The investigation in this field calls for high-performance techniques with both high separation efficiency and the ability of structure identification, as a result of the complicacy of traditional Chinese medicine both in composition and pharmacology. Two advanced analytical tools, liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) and capillary electrophoresis-mass spectrometry (CE-MS), are most favorable to solve this problem. This review covered the applications of LC-MS and CE-MS in the analysis of traditional Chinese medicine, including the analysis of the chemical constituents, quality control, drug metabolism, pharmacokinetics and compatibility of medicines.
