ARTISTIC AND PHILOSOPHICAL BASIS FOR THE ART OF M. K. ČIURLIONIS

Abstract
The article researches the artistic and philosophical basis for the art of the unique Lithuanian composer, artist, poet, and philosopher Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis (1875–1911). The work, therefore, defines one of the original artistic and philosophical tendencies in the development of the European culture at the end of 19th– the beginning of 20th century called cosmism as a conceptual embodiment of Čiurlionis's artistic vision. The phenomenon of M. Čiurlionis's artistic work as a unique cultural and artistic manifestation of the end of 19th – the beginning of 20th century will be explained. The research outlines the theurgical aspect of M. Čiurlionis's artistic perspective. The associative and logical parallels identified between the artistic concepts of M. Čiurlionis and the works of his contemporaries – the Ukrainian artists M. Zhuk (1883–1964), Iu. Mykhailiv (1885–1935) and P. Kholodnyi (1876–1930), in particular – are analysed for the first time.
