Abstract
The article deals with the social history of Ukraine during the 20th century. Four transitional periods have been identified, which appeared when the socio-economic and political conditions in the country changed. There is a withering away of the former conditions and the emergence of new trends in transitional periods. The peculiarities of town planning and architecture in transitional periods are analyzed, their essence and the reasons for their appearance are determined, which are caused by changes in the state's economic and political structure.
