Attempts of Adding Meanings to the Memorization of the Qurʾān: Eva-luation of the work Hâfiz: Lafzın Hâmili, Mananın Âmili

Abstract
The “Hıfz” education has played an important function throughout the his-tory in terms of both conservation and understanding of the Qurʾān. At this point, it is seen that the weight is given to the memorization side; however, efforts towards acquainting the hāfiz (who knows Qur’an by heart) with the meaning of the holy message are continuing both academically and socially. The aim of this article is to make a scientific critique of the three volume study titled “Hâfız: Lafzın Hâmili, Mananın Âmili” which is published by the Presi-dency of Religious Affairs. Since the publication has an extremely important perspective, such as supporting the Hıfz (memorization) processes with prog-rams to understand the holy text. The extent to which the result has achieved the objectives at the starting point of the study is open to discussion. The analysis was based on the internal layout of the 600-page book, and firstly, the findings of the selection and presentation of the verses chosen from each page to learn hāfiẓ students their meaning were shared. In addition, the con-tents of the chapters such as “Titles”, “Information”, “Message” and “Vo-cabulary” were evaluated and it was tried to reach a conclusion about the functionality of the project as a whole.
