Abstract
Analyzed the essential characteristics of imprisonment for a definite period. as a form of punishment. Determined the general and individual attributes of imprisonment for a definite period. Considered the traditional and modern scientific views on punishment and its normative fixing. Proposed the new version of Part 1 of the article 63 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
